Hometown Hero History

Hometown Heroes is a grassroots effort that Time Warner Cable created in 1998 to honor outstanding individuals who made a sincere commitment to benefiting the lives of children within our communities.
This initiative was designed to acknowledge the unsung heroes who pledge support and drive the effort within their communities to help our future generation excel in todays world.

How will the Hometown Heroes be selected?
|
|
Hometown Heroes will be selected based on their voluntary service, dedication, and contributions in the last year toward improving the quality of life for children in one of the communities
in the Time Warner Cable San Antonio service area. Nominees will be judged on their
volunteers efforts that go above and beyond their paid occupation.

Who selects the winners?
|
|
A panel of judges composed of a cross section of representatives from service organizations, businesses, and the news media.
|

When will the Hometown Heroes be announced?
|
|
Time Warner Cable will host an awards ceremony on February 1, 2006, at the Omni Hotel San Antonio to recognize the contributions of the Hometown Heroes.
Elected officials, business leaders, and representatives of the news media will be invited to pay tribute to the outstanding work of our Hometown Heroes.

How will the Hometown Heroes be recognized?
|
|
Each Hero will be honored at the awards ceremony and reception to be held on February 1, 2006, at the Omni Hotel San Antonio.
One Hometown Heros selected nonprofit organization will receive a $2,500 donation, which will be chosen in a random drawing the night of the event.
A 30-second television spot thanking the Hometown Heroes will air on the Time Warner Cable system.
Each Hero will receive a special award commemorating the honor of being selected a Hometown Hero.

Eligibility Requirements
|
| 1. |
Individuals nominated as a Hometown Hero must be 18 years of age or older as of January 1, 2005. |
| 2. |
The nominee must reside in 1 of the 33 communities listed on the next page. |
| 3. |
The nominee must nominated for a community in the Time Warner Cable San Antonio service area, but is not required to live in the community he/she volunteers in. |
| 4. |
The nominee must actively be contributing to the well-being of children within the community. Each winner will be selected based on the following criteria:
a. Voluntary service performed toward a specific goal in the community that benefits children
b. Innovation in developing programs directed toward children
c. Community leadership in directing a positive change affecting children
d. Involvement, commitment, and achievement with diverse organizations within the community

Declared candidates running for public office in 2005/2006 are not eligible. |
| 6. |
Employees of Time Warner Cable and their immediate families are not eligible to be nominated. |
| 7. |
Winners of the 2004 Hometown Heroes Award are not eligible to win in consecutive years |

Nomination Checklist

Complete the nomination form (either the print or electronic version) |

Complete the questionnaire about nominee |
|
Submit the nominees biography (no more than 250 words) and a recent photograph. |
|
Have the nominee designate a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization that supports youth-related causes in the space provided on the next page to be included in a drawing for a $2,500 contribution on behalf of Time Warner Cable and The Hometown Heroes Program |
